SMX Email – FAQ

  

What is SMX?

SMX Secure Email Gateway is a powerful threat protection mechanism stopping threats and spam from reaching your email box. Your incoming and outgoing emails are routed through the SMX Gateway which scrubs them of threats. The system is always learning and adapting which means 99.9% of threats will be dealt with.

  

How can we tell SMX when they block legitimate emails?

Legitimate emails or false positives are when an email are blocked by the system, but is in fact should be allowed. You can report this to SMX by attaching a copy of the email to a message and sending it to emailsupport@smxemail.com.

  

How can we tell SMX when a spam email is delivered to you?

A false negative is when an email is not blocked by the system, but is in fact a spam email. You can report this to SMX by emailing a copy to emailsupport@smxemail.com. There is plugin that creates a button in Outlook for reporting spam. You can also log a support call with IT Live and we will arrange to get it installed for you.

  

Is there a way of creating our own rules?

Yes, SMX uses a feature called Smart Rules. Smart Rules allow us to filter based on sender, recipient, message size, content or attachments. It then allows us to quarantine the email, drop the email, redirect the email, or add text to the email (as a warning perhaps). Your system administrator or IT Live need to set these up.

  

Can we Whitelist or Blacklist email addresses?

Yes, your system administrator or IT Live can do this for you.

  

Does SMX Quarantine “bad” emails?

Yes, there is a Quarantine facility where valid emails can be released if they are blocked. Please contact your system administrator or IT Live to do this.

  

Can we release an email the contains a virus by mistake?

No. Emails containing viruses are automatically deleted from the system.

  

Does SMX do Archiving / Journaling?

Yes, SMX does give you the ability to Archive inbound and outbound emails. This is an extra feature on top of the basic subscription and is an extra cost. Archives are stored indefinitely and cannot be deleted.

What do we see if an email is blocked?

The sender is sent a notification that says the email was blocked and the reason for this. If this is a valid email please contact your administrator or IT Live and we will need to release it for you.

  

Is there a way we can get reports from SMX?

Yes, there are templates your administrator or IT Live can run as a once-off report, or as regular, scheduled reports via subscriptions. Your administrator or IT Live will have access to set these up.
